Matthew Butler

Matthew Butler is a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia with a BS in Computer Science with Math Minor (1995).  After two summer internships and a year of employment with Booz, Allen and Hamilton, Washington DC, Mr. Butler started Butler Computer Services and developed business with Fortune 500 companies such as Fairchild Space Defense, IBM and Dell.  In 2000, in one of the most difficult climates for raising VC for technology, Mr. Butler focused his efforts on developing a technology product company and successfully raised $2.5MM in three rounds and founded Emertech Technologies and First Responders Systems and Technology.  Credited as an inventor on the patent pending passive infrared spectroscopy based HazSensor, which can detect and quantify hazardous materials at a safe distance, Mr. Butler created, managed and lead a team of Ph.D level scientist and software developers in the development of a working prototype in a true “started in the garage” startup.  Two products were extracted from the HazSensor and were commercialize and nationally marketed within the new entity First Responders System and Technology where Mr. Butler served as CEO and CTO.  With a successful exit in 2003, Mr. Butler focused his efforts on renewable energy and extreme poverty issues.  Biodiesel rose to the top as an answer.  Mr. Butler Founded and is currently President of Zenergy Bio Fuel, LLC which was created in May 2006 and received a LOI for $150MM for the building of a biodiesel facility on the Houston Ship Channel.  As the reality of feedstock and renewable diesel technology became apparent, Zenergy gracefully took a step back and focused our efforts on complete analysis of the bioenergy supply chain.  Zenergy is now focuses on the development of sustainable bioenergy supply chains for transportation fuels, grid electricity and carbon credits along with educating the general public about energy solutions for our future.
